About Organic Composting

The term “organic” as it relates to the environment is anything living or that has once lived. Decomposer organisms will eat all dead organic materials, but they will not eat inorganic materials, such as rocks and plastics. Over time, inorganic materials will break into smaller and smaller pieces, but no organism in our current environment has the ability to digest inorganic materials. That’s why they stay in our environment for centuries or longer.

Organic materials represent some of the heaviest parts of waste by volume. Composting these materials allow you to reduce the amount of garbage your carter collects, reducing your waste management bill while aiding the environment. Organics decomposing in landfills release harmful amounts of methane, a gas that traps heat in the atmosphere 20 times more effectively that carbon dioxide.
